BMS HIL Testing Requirements | Hardware-in-the-Loop Validation
Define BMS interfaces, battery simulation, fault injection, communication and automation requirements for HIL testing.
BMS HIL testing is most useful when the validation team can reproduce controlled electrical and behavioural conditions, observe BMS responses and automate repeatable test cases. The HIL architecture should therefore be specified from the BMS interface and validation matrix outward.
Core HIL requirements
Electrical Simulation
Define cell voltage, pack voltage, current, temperature and other simulated signals required by the BMS.
Communication
Identify CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet and diagnostic interfaces together with message databases and timing requirements.
Fault Injection
Map open-wire, sensor, communication, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and thermal fault scenarios as applicable.
Automation
Specify test sequencing, stimulus generation, response capture, pass/fail logic and report generation.
Before procurement
What is the BMS I/O?
Provide the exact electrical and communication interfaces so the simulation and measurement architecture can be matched to the DUT.
What must be validated?
Translate the requirements specification into a test matrix covering normal operation, protections, diagnostics and recovery behaviour.
Do we need a physical battery?
HIL can reproduce defined battery conditions for controlled testing, subject to the required simulation fidelity and system configuration.
How will results be traced?
Link test cases, firmware/software versions, configurations, measurements and reports for repeatable validation.
